Review and expand on Neurobiology of pain
Pain referral patterns
Orthopedic testing for relevant muscles
Review rib blocking and needling safety
Palpation of anatomy of areas to be needled
Identify origin, insertion, borders, fiber direction of all muscles as applicable
Identify relevant anatomical landmarks and underlying structures, such as major nerves
This seminar focuses on palpation, locating trigger points, and needling
Muscles; Palpation and needling of muscles of the following areas:
- Upper extremities – upper and lower arm
Also covered will be pain referral patterns, potential nerve and vascular entrapments, autonomic concomitants, and differential diagnoses.
It is highly recommended that you review musculoskeletal anatomy and at least basic orthopedic testing prior to taking this course.

Joshua Swart, L.Ac. and Matthew Reed, L.Ac., are the founders of Chinese Medicine That Works, Ltd. They have taught needling skills seminars and assisted in motor point seminars.
Joshua Swart, L.Ac. has been practicing dry needling since 2009, and uses dry needling (trigger and motor points) and distal acupuncture. Matthew has studied dry needling techniques for five years and uses dry needling almost exclusively in his clinic. His practice focuses on Orthopedics and sports medicine, including Anthony Lombardi’s EXSTORE® system of assessment.
